Five years ago we bought our house in Lander, Wyoming. Two weeping birches stood in the front yard, both well past their prime. When the time came to take them down, we found someone in town to mill the trunks into slabs rather than send the trees to the landfill. Those slabs dried in the shop for three years waiting for their second life.
This table is the first of a series of coffee tables made from those trees. Each slab is different, which challenges us to design pieces that fit the soul of the slab rather than the other way around.
We don't always get the chance to work with wood we felled and milled ourselves. Doing so made this project extra special to us.
